THE SHATTERED REALMS SERIES

FRACTURED is the forthcoming first book in The Shattered Realms Series, an epic fantasy romance set in a world splintered by elemental magic and forgotten memory.

Human healer, Isla buries her grief in her work until an incurable new illness begins to claim lives faster than she can save them. Vaelin, a guarded fae warrior, watches in vain as the same illness decimates his own people, twisting and turning their magic against them. When an ancient vision points him to an unremarkable human healer as their salvation, he embarks on a single-minded mission.

Vaelin is everything Isla resents — emotionless, entitled, and a member of the same fae court she holds responsible for her parents’ deaths. But when he arrives in her village insisting that she is the only one who may be able to cure the illness ravaging the continent, she realizes that the only way to help her people is to find the cure that could save them all.

Together, Vaelin and Isla race against time, navigating treacherous, unforgiving realms to seek the mysterious Seers who are their last hope for finding a cure to the deadly illness. Strange phenomena erupt across the continent: the earth shudders as natural disasters rip through the realms, magic revolts against its wielders, and old wars ignite with renewed bloodshed. Soon, it becomes clear the illness is but one symptom of something ancient and inevitable, a calamitous reckoning that was always meant to break the world — and Isla and Vaelin stand in the eye of the storm.

This is a fantastic debut romantasy by Brooke Linden. It has everything a fantasy lover might want; an immersive world, an impending cataclysm that threatens it, culture based magic with costs, and a full cast of incredibly likeable characters.

What a debut from Brooke Linden! Full of humour and banter that had me snorting, near escapes that had me holding my breath, plot twists I didn’t see coming and raw grief that left my eyes welling on numerous ocassions.

Honestly, I can’t believe this is Brooke’s debut novel, because it’s so damn good. I read this so fast because it fascinated me. The pacing was really good - I felt it was always moving, and there was something happening all the time.

“Threads of her hair shifted in the breeze that wound through the room. His eyes dropped to her arm, to the hand splayed across his chest, his breathing coming easier as the dream faded into blackness. It was disarming… how easily she quieted the storm inside him.”
